In 2015 Maxima Grupė grew in all its five markets

In 2015, the consolidated turnover of Maxima Grupė, which controls retail trade companies, reached EUR 2.677 billion, excluding VAT. Compared to 2014, it grew by 3.6%. All the Group’s companies operating in five countries – Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria and Poland – increased their turnover.

The Group’s companies also expanded the network of shops more actively than in previous years. A total of 25 new shops were opened and 16 shops were renovated in 2015. The annual investment for development and support totalled EUR 75.2 million. At the end of the year, the Group’s companies had over 31,000 employees.

“Coherent implementation of the Maxima business strategy determined a steady growth in the performance figures of all the Group’s companies. The improving economy and positive assessment of personal finances increased consumption and, correspondingly, our sales. Rational behaviour of buyers has become the norm, it is therefore not sufficient today to offer only low prices or price promotions. The consumer primarily needs a good price and quality balance, freshness, a suitable product range, and fast service. I think that proper satisfaction of the customers’ needs by offering them what they need determined good performance of our group of companies,” Neringa Janavičiūtė, director general of Maxima Grupė, said.

In terms of individual companies, Ms Janavičiūtė singled out Estonia. Nearly half of Maxima Grupė last year’s investment for development and business support, EUR 35.8 million, went to Estonia. As a result, the country saw the opening of a 45,000 sq.m logistics centre, which is one of the most modern in the country, and some large format shops.

For the fourth year in a row Maxima Eesti stands out in the Group with the largest growth in turnover among the Baltic States. In 2015, the turnover reached EUR 440.8 million, excluding VAT, and was 9.7% higher than in previous years. After opening of the new logistics centre, this year the review of the entire supply chain and its efficiency enhancement will be the main focus in Estonia.

Maxima LT achieved the largest annual turnover of EUR 1.443 billion, excluding VAT, in the Group. The company saw consistent growth and increased its annual turnover by 1.8%. The company successfully overcame the first year challenge of using the euro and paid maximum attention to boosting its competitiveness by reducing the prices of goods. In 2016, the company will pay particular attention to business development and support allocating over EUR 55 million for investments to this end.

The performance of Maxima Latvia reflects the general trend in economic growth of the country. The turnover of Maxima Latvia increased by 2.3% and reached EUR 676.1 million, excluding VAT. The largest turnover increase of 7.1% was recorded in Maxima XX format shops. This year the company will mostly focus on increasing its competitiveness and strengthening the product and service quality system.

Last year, the turnover of Maxima Bulgaria, which celebrated a decade of its activities, increased by 10.4% totalling EUR 72.4 million, excluding VAT. The growing turnover of the network shows that the consumers value the T-Market shop format, its prices, quality and assortment. In 2016, a further development of the company and improving its operating efficiency are planned.

The turnover of Aldik NOVA, the company operating in Poland, reached EUR 44.8 million, excluding VAT, in 2015. In comparison with 2014, it is an 18.9% increase. Aldik NOVA paid the main attention to the opening of new shops and the renovation of the existing shops. Buyers in Poland positively evaluated the renovated Aldik shops and their turnover increased by 20%. In 2015, Maxima Grupė invested EUR 8.2 million in Poland. Development will continue to be the priority in Poland in 2016.

Ms Janavičiūtė emphasised that in 2016 all companies of the Group would have the task of increasing competitiveness, improving operating efficiency of business processes, improving the reputation of companies, strengthening relations with local communities, raising the level of professional and managerial competences of employees, and building work culture based on corporate values.
